Fresh Fig Smoothie

I’m always looking for ingredients to throw in my meals that will boost their anti-inflammatory benefits, especially lately as I recover from a recent minor auto-immune flare up. It’s also fig season—figs just so happen to provide anti-inflammatory nutrients AND my backyard fig tree just so happens to be packed with these little teardrop bits of goodness.

I typically use these for appetizers, salads or to add a touch of sweetness to savory dishes, so I thought it’d be interesting to add them to a smoothie for a change. Added bonus, figs bring healthy fiber and prebiotics that help with digestion—lots of wins with this one!

Makes 1 large or 2 small smoothies

YOU WILL NEED

  • 4 small fresh figs

  • 2-3 pitted dates

  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach

  • 1/4 avocado

  • 1 cup ice

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut yogurt

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk

  • 2 tablespoons collagen powder or protein powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

TO MAKE

In a high-powered blender, add all ingredients. Process on a high speed until fully incorporated. Enjoy!
