Spiced Maca Chai Latte for Darling

It’s getting to be that cozy time of year where you just want to curl up with a warm cuppa something yummy, a comfy blanket, and a good book.

Darling’s Celestial Spring Throw Blanket, Soul Collection Cups and Trusty Cable Knit Sweater perfectly set the stage for a cozy moment such as this, with a comforting drink filled with warming spices for the fall season.

Enter my recipe for Spiced Maca Chai Lattes…

This latte takes on chai flavors, but I add in some maca for good measure. The powdered form of this adaptogenic root is said to have potent nutritional benefits and provide an extra kick of energy. It is extra delicious with coconut milk, but will be quite yummy with the non-dairy milk of your choice—just avoid added sweeteners, preservatives, and gums.

Feel free to skip the maca, if you don’t have any on hand, and use the rest of the ingredients for a simple chai.

Check out the recipe below for two, and feel free to cut it in half if making one just for yourself.

Makes 2 Lattes

YOU WILL NEED

  • 3 cups unsweetened coconut or other non-dairy milk, heated or steamed

  • 2 black tea bags

  • 2 tablespoons maca powder

  • 1 tablespoon coconut sugar or date sugar, increase for a sweeter latte

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1” knob of ginger

  • Whole nutmeg, for serving

TO MAKE

Place the tea bags in the heated milk to steep for 3-5 minutes. Remove the tea bags from the milk. Whisk the maca powder, coconut sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and cloves into the milk. Grate the ginger into the milk mixture (call me lazy, but I don’t even peel it first because it’s going to be strained out). Store and let sit for a few minutes.

Pour the latte through a fine strainer into two mugs. Grate a bit of nutmeg over the top and enjoy!
